The Ultimate Guide to Packing your Hospital Bag is a handy list of things you don’t want to forget when getting your bag ready. You will need some things for your newborn as well.
You will need:
Maternity Notes and Birthing Plan
Clothes – something old to birth in that you don’t mind getting messy and something to change into afterwards. Think comfy and easy to breast feed in. Clean underwear! Slippers or socks are ideal.
Breast pads and nursing bra
Toothbrush, Soap, Shampoo for your shower after birth
Snacks and Drinks to keep you going during labour
Something to read or do while you are waiting for labour to progress further
Mobile phone or tablet and camera – don’t forget the chargers or a spare battery
Baby you will need:
Newborn sized nappies and wipes
Clothes such as onesie, booties, hat and a couple of extra outfits including that special going home outfit
Carseat should already be installed in your car. Get your partner to do this before he brings you and baby home
Other things to think about:
You may need extra items if you have to stay in hospital longer than planned or are heading to a maternity unit afterwards so make sure you have something ready to go that your partner can grab and bring in for you.
If you are planning on having a home birth, it’s handy to have all the above in an easy to access place so your support team can easily find anything you may need.
If you are planning on a water birth remember to bring something for your birthing partner to wear in the water!
