Name: Tracy Morgan
Short Bio about yourself and business:
I’m a mum to Daniel 3 1/2 and Jayden 21mo, and also the owner of Squoodles. Squoodles is an online store with a strong focus on Educational Toys and Gifts for Children, launched in May 2013.
What influenced you to start your business?
I was looking for a job that would allow me to stay at home with my boys, but also get my brain working again – and Squoodles was the result! My aim was to provide excellent quality products at affordable prices, so that everyone could enjoy them, and also to bring in products from overseas that Squoodles has exclusivity to.
What tactics helped you get your business started?
No particular tactics. With my career before kids being in Sales and Marketing, and my husbands in Business Management – it wasn’t so much when we’d start a business, but what type of business it would be when we did start. Living and breathing babies and kids sort of made it easy to do something that I was passionate about in a child related area. And having two little product testers is a bonus too!
Would you change anything about what you do?
Nope – I love what I do and I’m happy with the way everything is growing. The kids are flourishing having a happy mum, and I’m enjoying getting stuck into work again.
Anything exciting going on right now or about to happen?
Squoodles always has something happening. This year is going to be a big one with bookings for various Markets in place, as well as Expos throughout New Zealand. We’ll also be exhibiting at the Auckland Food Show and the Auckland Baby Show this year for the first time – so that’s exciting. And there’s some new products on the way, exclusive to Squoodles! I can’t wait to show them to you once they arrive!
What is your greatest achievement to date?
Apart from creating two gorgeous boys? It would have to be getting this business off the ground and making money within the first year of trading. My aim is also to have 5000 likes on FB by the time we have our one year anniversary, and we’re on track to achieving that too.
Where do you see your business in 5 years?
As a huge success, with a few more staff on board to help me out. We have a business plan in place that we review every month to ensure that we’re on track to achieving our goals. I work much better if I have a plan in place 🙂
What do you do in your spare time?
Gosh, what spare time! Running around after a toddler and preschooler and trying to show them all this cool country has to offer doesn’t allow for alot of spare time. When I’m not having fun with the kids and hubby, I’m doing Squoodle Bug things. It’s a busy and fun life we lead. And it’s nice now that the kids are a bit older and happy to be left with a sitter – hubby and I are finally getting to spend some time together alone, which is lovely!
